Safe and Sound: Ensuring Your Newborn’s Comfort During Photography Sessions

As a mother and a photographer, I know there is nothing more precious than your little one. At Kerry Annette Photography, I’m honored to capture the fleeting moments of your baby’s first days of life. But as much as I’m passionate about creating timeless images, your baby’s safety always comes first.

Newborn photography is a delicate art. Those heart-melting poses that look effortless are actually the result of careful planning, preparation, and technique—all designed with your baby’s safety and comfort in mind. Here are some of the ways I ensure your newborn is safe during their session:

1. Studio Hygiene

Before your session, the studio is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. All props, blankets, and outfits are freshly laundered with baby-safe detergents. Hand sanitizer is always within reach, and I take extra care to ensure a clean and comfortable environment.

2. Comfortable Temperatures

Newborns are sensitive to temperature changes, so I keep the studio warm and cozy to mimic the womb’s environment. A space heater is often used to ensure your baby feels snug and secure throughout the session.

3. Supportive Posing Techniques

Many popular newborn poses, such as the “froggy pose,” are created with composite editing or require hands-on support. I never force your baby into a position that isn’t natural or safe. Every pose is done with their comfort in mind, and their head and neck are always supported.

4. Trained Assistant and Spotters

For sessions requiring more complex setups, I work with trained assistants or ask a parent to act as a spotter. This ensures your baby is always secure and supervised, whether in a prop or on a posing pillow.

5. Following Baby’s Lead

Your baby’s comfort is my guide. If they show signs of discomfort or fussiness, I’ll adjust the session accordingly. There is no rush, and plenty of time is built in for feeding, soothing, and snuggles.

6. Safe Props and Materials

All props used during the session are carefully selected for safety. From baskets to wraps, each item is inspected to ensure there are no sharp edges, loose parts, or materials that could irritate your baby’s sensitive skin.

7. Clear Communication

Before your session, I’ll go over everything you can expect and answer any questions you may have. I encourage parents to share any concerns or special requests so that we can work together to create a safe and enjoyable experience.

8. First Aid Knowledge

As an added precaution, I stay informed about basic infant first aid. While emergencies are incredibly rare, being prepared gives me peace of mind and ensures that I can act quickly and effectively if needed.

Why Safety Matters

Your newborn’s well-being is more important than any pose or photo. Creating beautiful images is a collaboration that starts with trust. By prioritizing safety, I’m able to give you both stunning photographs and the assurance that your baby is in the best hands.

Let’s Capture These Precious Moments

Newborn sessions are more than photoshoots; they’re a celebration of new life and the love that surrounds your growing family. By prioritizing safety, we can ensure this experience is as joyful and stress-free as possible.
